A bulk jewelry order is only as good as its quality control. Whether you buy from Holycome or any other factory, knowing what to inspect saves you returns, negative reviews and wasted margin. Here is the QC checklist we use internally.
1. Material and plating check
Look at color consistency across the batch. Gold pieces should match; silver pieces should not show yellow or green tints. Run a soft cloth over the surface; no plating should rub off. Ask for the SGS nickel-free test report for the exact batch.
2. Stone setting check
Gently wiggle each stone with a toothpick. It should not move. Check prong tips; they should be smooth and not sharp enough to catch fabric. On tennis bracelets, run a finger along the row; every stone should sit level.
3. Clasp and chain check
Open and close each clasp ten times. It should snap shut cleanly. Pull the chain gently; it should not separate. Check the lobster clasp spring; a weak spring means returns.
4. Post and hook check
For earrings, the post should be straight and the back should grip. Fish hooks should have a smooth end so they do not tear ears. Nickel-free steel posts are standard for resale.
5. Visual and packing check
Inspect under bright light for scratches, dents and discolored spots. Each piece should be individually polybagged or carded, then grouped by style. The master carton should be sealed and labeled with your PO number, gross weight and carton number.
What defect rate is acceptable?
Budget fashion jewelry should land at 1 to 2 percent defect rate. Above 3 percent, you should renegotiate or switch supplier. At Holycome our average defect rate is 1.2 percent, and we replace defective pieces free of charge within warranty.
Document everything
Photograph every carton on arrival. If 10 pieces are bad, send a photo list to the factory within seven days. A good supplier responds within 2 hours and ships replacements in the next order.
Quality control is not optional; it is the difference between a 4.8-star store and a refund-heavy nightmare. Inspect every batch and hold your supplier to the standard you would expect yourself.
